Patrol Jobs
The following job responsibilities are only to give the PL an idea of how a
Patrol could be organized. Each Patrol is different, will have different needs
and abilities, and will have to define the responsibilities for their Patrol
members that all members agree to.
Patrol Leader
- Leads the patrol at all Patrol Activities
- Represents the patrol at patrol leader council (PLC) meetings;
- Keeps the patrol informed of the PLC’s decisions and the patrols
responsibilities at troop meetings
- Makes sure that all Patrol members know what their job in the Patrol is
and how to do it;
- Encourages Patrol members to be active and to advance.
Assistant Patrol Leader
- Is prepared to fill in for the Patrol Leader whenever necessary;
- Attends PLC meetings so he knows what is going on;
- Helps other Patrol members with their jobs;
- Usually he works closely with the Patrol:
- Hikemaster
- Grubmaster
- Quartermaster
Scribe
- Keeps records of patrol activities including attendance records, and Honor
Patrol records;
- Responsible for filling out dues envelopes at Troop meetings;
- Calls to remind Patrol members of meetings and activities
- Keeps the patrol scrap book up to date.
Quartermaster
- Makes sure the patrol has necessary equipment for activities by
coordinating with the troop quartermaster, the patrol leader and the
grubmaster. (Doesn’t have to supply all the equipment, just arranges to
make sure that all need equipment is available);
- Makes sure Troop equipment is returned in good repair after campouts;
- Know who has equipment that can be borrowed if necessary;
- Take care of any Patrol Equipment.
Skillsmaster
- Make sure that every Patrol member is working on an advancement
requirement;
- Help Patrol members advance by teaching them the skills they need;
- Keep track of advancement in the Patrol for the Honor Patrol Contest;
Grubmaster
- Maintains a file of menus for the patrol.
- Makes suggestions for campout meals to Patrol;
- Prepares the menu and food list for patrol activities,
- Gets money for food from Troop Treasurer and sees that excess money is
returned or extra money is collected if necessary;
- Assures that food for campouts is purchased;
- Provide the Patrol Quartermaster a list of necessary cooking equipment at
least 2 weeks before the campout.
Hikemaster
- Keeps a list of places to have hikes and campouts,
- Help arrange permission for patrol activities, assist in route
planning for
the activity.
- Find out who is going on campouts and tell PL at least 3 weeks before
campout.
- See that Patrol members get their permission slips in on time.
Cheermaster
- Keeps a list of cheers, yells, songs, and skits, is ready to lead the
patrol in these at any time;
- Keeps up Patrol Spirit and leads Patrol in cheers and songs.
- Is responsible for the patrol flag, and makes sure it is at all Patrol
activities
