ABOUT SCOUTING AND TROOP 174

WHY  JOIN SCOUTING?

ADVENTURE! That's what Scouting is. You are standing at the doorway to the most exciting adventures you can imagine. Step into the world of Scouting, and you'll find yourself hiking along mountain trails, canoeing across lakes, and camping under the open sky. Smell fresh rain in the woods and fill your mouth with the taste of wild strawberries. Cook your meals over a camping stove. Travel the backcountry without leaving a trace, and live with only what you can carry on your back. Sound inviting? As a Scout, you can do all this and more.

WHY JOIN TROOP 174?

First of all we would really like to have you join our group. The more good Scouts we have, the more FUN.

But also, you will have the adventures above, and you will get to make some great friendships. You probably already know some of the boys in the Troop, and you will get to make many new friends. We do lots of camping, and you can learn to work with others in your Patrol to become an expert camper.

You will learn the skills that are used in the outdoors. You will learn to find your way with map and compass, to stay warm and dry in stormy weather, and to give proper first aid. You can observe wildlife close up, and learn to properly use a knife, saw, ax, and fire as tools in the wilderness. You will also get a chance to teach others what you know. Friends helping Friends -- that's all part of scouting in Troop 174.

Be sure to check out what we've done lately in Recent Events on the left hand menu.  Upcoming events can also be viewed there.

Hey! Why not come and visit us a few times, and see if Scouting is for you.

We meet at the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church (4700 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM  87114) every Monday at 7 PM.  Come see what Troop 174 is all about!

Troop Pictures

Posted on Feb 3 2012 - 9:01am

For those that requested a disk with all the troop pictures from last year and a file with all the pictures of a particular scout/leader, the disks are finished. Since I won't be active at troop meetings until March, I will try to catch people before or after a meeting, or will try to get it to you one way or another before I loose them. There are over 5000 pictures of troop activities organized by activity, and about 100 to 300 pictures of each scout/leader depending on how long they were in the troop.
1/23-MOST OF THE DISKS HAVE BEEN PASSED OUT, AND NANCY KNAPP HAS THE REST.
